A Cup of Tea

Sometimes the simplest things give place to some really strong emotions. One of those things for me is definitely Tea. Here is a timeline of tea in my life:

Childhood
I would see my mother and father indulging in tea about 3 to 4 times a day. Those would be the moments where they would chat to each other and not engage in watching TV or doing anything else. It seemed like a good time to catch up.
When we went to visit other families and friends, they would serve tea to everyone except the kids because tea was STRICTLY NOT for kids, only the adults could have it. We would be served coke or juice, as if that was any healthier!?

Teenage
I was allowed the liberty to have tea but I didn’t find any pleasure in it. Maybe I had not yet developed the taste buds for it? I was assigned the job of making the evening tea for both my parents. I had learnt the exact recipe and we used the same teaspoon for the tea leaves which was used for years. The day it that spoon dissappeared, I was at a loss. I wasn’t sure if my tea would taste the same.

Love
I met someone who loved tea and I fell in love with him and with tea at around the same time. We used to go to the hills and the mountains and while the views and the company changed – one thing remained the same – Tea.

Friendship
Tea became a constant. I would go meet friends and we would always start our day with it even if our day actually started in the Afternoon. I had a friend who would give her all and make tea for me. It would simmer for a long time, finely crushed ginger was added in the end. She would bring out the best cups and pour them out neatly. We would then sit at our table with coasters and all, light a scented candle along with a hand rolled cigaratte and those were some of the best evenings with Tea.

Most recently, my father made us all a cup of tea. I had my doubts about how it would taste. I don’t even know the last time he went to a kitchen. To my surprise, it was absolutely delicious. I guess there are some things that you can’t forget how to do once you have learnt it – much like riding a bicycle.

Phases
There have been gaps of months and years when I have not had tea and there have been phases where I have had tea on a daily basis. For me it is just one of those things – the excess of which gets to me and I have to eventually take a break. But whenever I go back, my love gets stronger and I go all in – simmering, sipping and smoking all worries away.

Podcasts: Harry Potter

So these days, every night before I go to sleep, I plug in my earphones and listen to either audiobooks or podcasts on SoundCloud and there was this hilarious podcast I found about Harry Potter which you MUST listen to if you’re a fan. It has been done by the Comedians Cinema Club. So there were discussions, lame puns (which I totally loved), magic on a podcast, etcetra etcetra. It’s a 33 minute long thing and I dozed off midway because it was a tired and depressing day but one thing that I totally loved was the mashup of Harry Potter and Uptown Funk.

The lyrics go like:

LYRICS:
This Wiz, I’m ice cold
Im Voldemort, That white gold
This one, for that H.P.
Says he hates me,
But what can he do?
Caught the kid, boy who lived
Harry’s outta luck
With the Elder wand, stop the chosen one
Maybe make a new horcrux? (Ha!)

I’m too hot (hot hand)
Call an Auror up to try and stop this man
I’m too hot (hot hand)
Make a headmaster retire man
I’m too hot (hot hand)
Don’t say my name, you know who I am!
I’m too hot (hot hand)
Am I bad ‘bout this curse,
Avada down now

Albus sent ya, hallelujah (Whoo)
Albus sent ya, hallelujah (Whoo)
Albus sent ya, hallelujah (Whoo)
Cuz Dark Lord Funk gon’ give it to ya!
Cuz Dark Lord Funk gon’ give it to ya!
Cuz Dark Lord Funk gon’ give it to ya!
Saturday night and we takin Hogwarts
Don’t believe me, just watch! (Come on!)
Don’t believe me, just watch! (x5)
Hey, Hey, Hey, Oh!

Stop!
Wait a minute
Fill my goblet, put some fire in it
Grasp the hands, make the vow
Come on ‘Trix, seal this now!
We takin Diagon, Knockturn, Hogsmede, Anywhere!
If we show up, we gon’ curse out
Badder than that Devil’s Snare (Ha!)

I’m too hot (hot hand)
Call an Auror, try and stop this man
I’m too hot (hot hand)
Make a headmaster retire man
I’m too hot (hot hand)
Witch, say my name, you know who I am!
I’m too hot (hot hand)
Am I bad ‘bout this curse
Crucio now

Albus sent ya, hallelujah (Whoo)
Albus sent ya, hallelujah (Whoo)
Albus sent ya, hallelujah (Whoo)
Cuz Dark Lord Funk gon’ give it to ya!
Cuz Dark Lord Funk gon’ give it to ya!
Cuz Dark Lord Funk gon’ give it to ya!
It’s Saturday night and we takin Hogwarts
Don’t believe me, just watch! (Come on!)
Don’t believe me, just watch! (x5)
Hey, Hey, Hey, Oh!

Before we leave
Imma tell Harry Potter a lil’ somethin
Dark Lord Funk you up, Dark Lord Funk you up
Dark Lord Funk you up, Dark Lord Funk you up
I said Dark Lord Funk you up, Dark Lord Funk you up
Dark Lord Funk you up, Dark Lord Funk you up

Come on, curse! Just cast it,
If you got the mark, then blast it
If you’re pureblood, we’ll have it
No need to fear the dark magic!
Come on, curse! Just cast it,
No need to fear the dark magic,
Saturday night and we takin Hogwarts,
Don’t believe me, just watch! (Come on)
Don’t believe me, just watch! (x5)
Hey, Hey, Hey, Oh!

Dark Lord Funk you up, Dark Lord Funk you up (Say Whaa!?)
Dark Lord Funk you up, Dark Lord Funk you up
Dark Lord Funk you up, Dark Lord Funk you up (Say Whaa?)
Dark Lord Funk you up, Dark Lord Funk you up…etc 🙂

And here is a dubstep version of Hedwig’s theme that I really liked.

Calvin and Hobbes

Calvin and Hobbes completed 30 year anniversary this year. Without any doubt, it is one of my favourite daily comic strips. Here are some of my favourites saved over the years. 🙂screenshot_2013-04-21_1454-1 screenshot_2013-04-21_1535-1 screenshot_2013-04-12_1707-1 screenshot_2013-04-12_1641-1 screenshot_2013-04-12_1640-1 screenshot_2013-04-12_1550-1 screenshot_2013-04-10_1158-1 screenshot_2013-04-10_1213-1 screenshot_2013-04-10_1223-1 screenshot_2013-04-10_1225-1 screenshot_2013-04-10_1225_1-1 screenshot_2013-04-10_1303-1

Calvin and Hobbes is a daily comic strip by American cartoonist Bill Watterson that was syndicated from November 18, 1985 to December 31, 1995. It follows the humorous antics of Calvin, a precocious, mischievous, and adventurous six-year-old boy, and Hobbes, his sardonic stuffed tiger. The pair is named after John Calvin, a 16th-century French Reformation theologian, and Thomas Hobbes, a 17th-century English political philosopher. At the height of its popularity, Calvin and Hobbes was featured in over 2,400 newspapers worldwide. As of January 2015, reruns of the strip still appear in more than 50 countries. By 2010 nearly 45 million copies of the 18 Calvin and Hobbes books have been sold.

Calvin and Hobbes is set in the contemporary United States in an unspecified suburban area, which is vaguely suggested to be in northeast Ohio. The strip depicts Calvin’s flights of fancy and his friendship with Hobbes. It also examines Calvin’s relationships with family and classmates. Hobbes’ dual nature is a defining motif for the strip: to Calvin, Hobbes is a live anthropomorphic tiger; all the other characters see him as an inanimate stuffed toy. Though the series does not mention specific political figures or current events, it does explore broad issues like environmentalism, public education, philosophical quandaries, and the flaws of opinion polls.

Thoughts while watching Amy Schumer

I have to say this. She is the BEST stand-up comedian ever!

Not only is she funny, she is subtle, she is not offensive and she doesn’t thrive on the stereotypical jokes on racism, sexism and all the other -isms that you MUST not joke about. Like seriously, humour is about so much more than stereotypes.

Here are some of her quotes and my thoughts:

  • So I was watching this show and the beginning itself just blew me away. Porn from a girl’s perspective. Thankyou Amy! I am just so glad that someone is getting the word across about feminism in a way that is so accessible and fun.
  • “That’s how you drink when you’re younger – like a homeless person… some people still do it… you pee behind dumpsters: (So relatable) 😀
  • “She is just there faking herself, because that’s what you do when you start dating someone… you’re this projection of yourself… Let me just sweep this crazy under the rug for a few months, you don’t need to see it yet” (Can it get any more real?)
  • “We have all just been a little raped… It’s because men in their 20s are legally retarded” xD (Nice move, hard-hitting yet subtle)
  • Turning morning after pills into night before because you know you are giving out signals. (Note sarcastic tone)
  • How much women hate cum. Yes, you heard it. Man I can’t get over this woman!
  • “Fake orgasms are our [a woman’s] sweet way of saying ‘wrap it up!'” Hahaha!
  • Bedroom chronicles: “My style is like to . . . . . lay there.” 😀
  • Comparing a huge dick to a unicorn? FTW.

Please please go watch this. I guarantee you, you will love it!
