A roundup of the monsoon beauties before I these songs disappear into the vortex of my brain.
I love all the shades of a relationship they managed to capture in this one song with the one common motif of travelling in the underground. I am a fan of public transport and I have so many stories related to it. It is a modern cultural experience in itself. To see it being used like this was nothing short of magic to me. 🙂
I have loved Angus and Julia Stone since ‘Big Jet Plane’. Their dreamy music is always so soothing and this video is Vacation goals AF! 😉
I stumbled upon Roo Panes accidentally and the only question I have is why didn’t I not know him earlier? It’s like I have found Damien Rice from the parallel universe!
This one is just to add the much needed color and peppiness to the sobriety that might have been induced by all the indie songs above. XD
“I’d rather dance than talk with you”. Enough said. 🙂
So this one day at work, I decided to randomly click on whatever music related link that appeared on my YouTube page and decided to review that music. I kept on choosing mildly interested titles from the suggested list and here is what we have:
H.E.R. – Lights On
The music reminds me a lot of Honne (I wrote a post about them earlier), but the touch of their vocals is missing. I shouldn’t be comparing and this is good in itself to listen on a breezy evening when you are all alone. This is what you would add in your “Chill” playlist for easy listening.
SZA – Broken Clocks
The music is very similar to the last one but slightly more upbeat and reminds me of Alessia Cara’s Stay. The lyrics though are great! Another good one for the “Chill” Playlist, but I doubt I would add it to mine. Recently, it feels like all of these songs sound almost the same.
Jain – Makeba
So, I cheated a little bit here. All the suggested music was by SZA so I chose this one instead. I have been obsessed with this one ever since a colleague played this during one of the office parties. The music and the lyrics are brilliant and the music as well. Jain is only 21 and has been all around the world. She spent quiet a bit of her life in Africa and her music has been influenced by African Music clearly. This song specially, has been written for ‘Makeba’ who was a UN goodwill ambassador, an actor and a singer, also known as Mama Africa. Do watch the video and experience the brilliance of editing!
Madcon – Don’t Worry ft. Ray Dalton
What do I even say? Yes it’s happy, yes it’s uplifting but what is this? Also, it’s been published by Warner Music Germany. What’s better than the song is the lobster at 2:34. xD
Robin Schulz – Sugar
OMG I thought that was Justin Beiber for a moment. I think this is a happier video than the last one! Just look at that cop go! It is embarrassing to say it but I do that sometimes when I am alone – dancing like a crazy person that is. 😀
So yeah, there is this new musician duo that I am totally obsessed with at the moment and as you can read in the title it’s “Oh Wonder”! I have been listening to their remixes for a long time now but never bothered to check out their original videos and music until YouTube threw them at me and voila!
Linking and listing below, two of my favorite songs – Ultralife (for the lyrics) and Heavy (for the music and the adorable video).
Lovesick the beat inside my head
Waves struck a sea of bitterness
Lights out solo in the blue
Before I found you
Days passed slowly, lost and low
You gave me hope and now there’s only
Blood running in my veins
I’ve never been here before
And I got love falling like the rain
I never could’ve asked for more
I got so much soul inside my bones
Take a look at me now
I’m young forever in the sun
Ever since you came I’m living ultralife
I’m living ultralife
Turn down the voice inside my head
Cause heaven only knows why we feel this emptiness
But I will climb out, find another view
Now I’ve found you
Found me on a basement floor
Back when I had lost it all
Told me what the fight was for
And I’m not giving up no more
You elevate the life in me
Illuminate the in-between
Forever gonna feel this free
And I’m not giving up now
It is really hard to put love into words, but they somehow make the impossible possible. And no matter where I am, who I am with, I can always relate to a part or all of the song.
The above song is “Heavy”. Even though the name is heavy, the song makes me feel light even at the most stressful moments. The way Josephine dances and looks at Anthony is beautiful beyond words. That kind of chemistry is really hard to find and I love the fact that they began bonding over loving the same kind of music. I feel that the kind of music you like says a lot about your personality and your playlist is one of those things that can reveal so much about you. I, for one, am very possessive about my playlist. I often force people into listening my music at social gatherings but what they never know is I very carefully play the kind of music that suits the moment. Those songs are only 10% of my total playlist and keeps changing with the mood. That was quiet the digression. Haha. Signing off to go back and watch Heavy. 🙂
Even though I don’t like beaches so much, I love the part where you sit on the sand and look at the sunset and feel the cool breeze brushing your skin. For some reason, this is that one song which reminds me of the beaches. Maybe because I discovered it on my trip to Goa or maybe it really is a beach baby kinda song.
You cannot do summer better than they do summer in this beautiful song by ‘The Bird and the Bees’. It’s their love for L.A. and I am a sucker for songs written for cities and if the city is to be as dreamy as this one, what can be better!?
From Chinese beats to Indian, the transformation just blew me away. Glass animals doing their usual thing in this one – being amazing that is.
Discovered the next one on Apple Music owing to my addiction to chill playlists. There is nothing better than cuddling up with a book and a cold beverage, sunlight filtering through the curtains with music like this playing in the background.
A little too angsty and rushed but I still love it since I have spent my afternoons binge watching this show.
Bruno Mars is the definition of easy listening combined with pep and upbeat-ness(?). His new song, for which the video is also great btw, is the new waiting-for-monsoon-but-loving-the-lazy-summers score!
This one because one Chainsmokers song is a must for the list and the concept of a waterbed was so new to me! Please don’t watch the video, it sucks. Posting the audio here!
It’s in the name and how can I possibly not include this weird and beautiful song I found on the treasure that is ‘TheSoundYouNeed’.
It has been quite some time since I uploaded a list of my favorite songs. Fall is a season which doesn’t really make an appearance in India but everything I have seen in popular culture seems beautiful beyond words. So here is my fall playlist which might or might not be about fall. 😛
A Lonely September: For those days when you are alone and restless. When I was younger I tried so hard to learn the chords for this song on a guitar without any success. 😛
We Don’t Talk Anymore: I am so addicted to this song. Not a day goes by when I don’t listen to this song at least five times. The video is amazing as well. There is so much happening, you have to watch it twice to see what all is really happening.
Faded (Not the Alan Walker one) – Have been listening to this song ever since the last three weeks surprisingly turned into an endless stream of club hopping and party sessions.
Nashe Si Chaddh Gayi: Not so much of a fan of Arijit Singh, but there are some good EDM beats coming out of Bollywood recently and also, the video of course is pretty great. So here it goes.
Cool Girl: Another one from the club hopping scenes. Tove Lo is at it again! 🙂
Kids: Gems like these are what make me fall in love with One Republic again and again, ever since I began listening to their first album!
Brothers in Arms: Once in the morning in office and you’re set for the day, from one of my favorite movies of all time. Is there a second part coming or not?
Take Me There: EDM from our own shores, Nucleya kills it again. Having attended it live, I feel a little too attached to this band. Fun fact: the featuring artist and I were college mates. Pretty epic I must say.
I have never been much of a sports person but I have never hated it either. I do hate it when people get super patriotic when their teams are playing and resort to name calling and jibes. That’s the worst. Anyway I am going off topic here. Today, I just wanted to make a compilation of really really good sports advertisements/music videos. Some of them are all about women, but that’s just how good they are!
Is it just me who associates music and songs with the city it’s based on? In the recent past its been happening a lot. While travelling in the local with my headphones plugged in, I was listening to songs from Delhi 6. And they refused to gel in with the scenery around me – the faint sound of the train in the background and the rain clad geography of Mumbai. Delhi is different. Delhi has that old world charm that everyone falls in love with gradually. Mumbai is to meant to be fallen in love with in an instant. Here is some music that will refuse to associate with the city it wasn’t based in. Trying to include only Rahman’s music.
Just btw O saya is the perfect song to listen to in the local because it is intensified by the background sound of the local, giving us the effect of a real life bass! 😀 Just Epic!
Recently, I came across this video by Afterglow by Wilkinson which has left a deep imprint on my mind. Why? Watch it first and then I will tell you.
Suppose all this were true? All these statistics and figures. Wouldn’t it make a perfect gift for your better half? Sorry, it would be more than perfect, a little creepy also maybe. LOL. Nevertheless, you can always fudge the statistics. After all its the thought that counts. How minutely they have captured the intricacies of a relationship is what amazed me and also their hilarious representations. I hope more videos come out like this, in different context. It would be thoroughly enjoyable.
A must for all Indie Lovers. Indie is perhaps my favourite genre and I cannot figure out the reason for it but I will tell you when I know. There are some things which are loved without any reason, perhaps. 🙂
You held my hand so
And told me what we
Could be dreaming of.
The Dreamer – The tallest man on Earth And i’m just a shadow of your thoughts in me
but sun is setting, shadows growing.
A long cast figure will turn into night,
it’s like nothing in this world ever sleeps.
Princess Chelsea – The Cigarette Duet It’s just a cigarette and it harms your pretty lungs
Well it’s only twice a week so there’s not much of a chance
It’s just a cigarette it’ll soon be only ten
Honey, can’t you trust me? When I want to stop, I can
