Lost and Found

I haven’t written on the blog for a really long time but finding this treasure forced me to write again. I am a sucker for cheesy videos and if they are couples with great animation and even better music, my day is made! This channel has several such videos and I just cannot wait to go back home and binge watch all of them.

For the time being, watch this and relive the charm of UP (sort of).

There is something about older couples that just makes you go ‘Aww’. It’s beautiful how the little elements keep popping up and all of those tiny things merge in the end to form a beautiful story. All the while it left me wondering about what’s going to happen and the end was the best it could possibly be. ❤

To find love in objects of affection is one thing, but to make love grow through them is completely another.

Jared Leto

Background song: Closer to the Edge

So this is about my teenage crush and singer and musician and actor and so much more. Not many people know but this amazing Oscar Winning actor also has a band called 30 Seconds to Mars which I have loved and adored since Eleventh Grade, thanks to a friend who introduced it to me. I was so crazy, I used to download pictures of him off the internet and make it my wallpaper and even put it up as my cover picture on FB. I have been obsessed with several such figures until it all ended suddenly.

So what about him?

Well he’s most definitely one of the most amazing musicians around and his videos really talk to you. They are so powerful and creative, I am just dying to see him live someday. Not just his videos, but even the instrumental music the band creates is beyond awesome. You must check out some of his videos. Here are some of my favourite ones:

You must have seen him in Dallas Buyers’ Club and I need not delve upon his amazing performance in that movie. Another great movie you should watch, if you haven’t yet, is ‘Requiem for a Dream’. The following is not an official trailer but it will give you an idea. And also, if you loved Trainspotting, you will definitely like this one!

Moving on, it’s hard to comprehend how one person can manifest so many different kinds of talents. And here we are, trying to sort out life, to appreciate and respect those who manage to get so far, and sometimes be a little jealous too. Having said that, I cannot wait for Suicide Squad to come out. I am sure he will make Ledger proud! 😀

Mehrooni

It’s one of the best short movies I have watched in a very long time. And trust me, it will make you shed a few tears – minimum. The narration – beautiful beyond words, the music – so touching, the story – very natural. This movie will make you regret all those moments when you wasted time being upset with your loved ones.

The love for Bombay, it’s little stories, hidden in every nook and corner, specially in it’s lifeline – comes out through the narration. I looked up the director and there was a quote by him which said “We don’t live in Mumbai, Mumbai lives in us.”

If you liked this one, you might also like

It’s presentation is what really appealed to me. It really reminds you of the era of Charlie Chaplin, and more recently of the movie ‘The Artist’. It’s good to see Indian movies experimenting with this form. Royal Stag, you are doing some good work. 😛

Shaitan and The Bling Ring

These two movies are one of my favourite movies in this genre. They are kind of like crime thrillers, but then, not really. Have a look at the trailers first, in case you haven’t seen the movie, maybe you will get a vague idea of what they are about.

Maybe I am wrong when I say they are very similar but the characters definitely are. Teenagers/Young Adults with the will to live life to the maximum on their own terms with not one care in the world. The former are compulsive thieves and the latter get pulled into it due to a series of accidents. But the way they both begin with a larger than life lifestyle and the former ends with kind of a resolution and let’s just not talk about the ending of Shaitan. It’s also about the hidden evil in everyone. The youngster of Bling Ring, the characters will keep you on an edge and will keep you thinking about what will happen next. The ones in Shaitan take one wrong step and this one step leads to a hundred other wrong ones. What they don’t realise is some things can’t be reversed.

What both talk about is the what is considered “cool” by the youngsters of today. What could happen if they stray from the right path and the usual question “Is youth wasted on the young?”

Also check out these two similar-ish music videos from the movies.

P.S. The soundtrack for both of them is simply amazing.

Angry Indian Goddesses

If you haven’t watched the movie, go watch it now. Because seldom does Bollywood make so much sense! 😛 This post is about the music in the movie that has caught my fantasy.
Here are the hilarious lyrics.

Teri teenage umariya,
Ladaaye nazariya,
Teri teenage umariya,
Zero figuriya,

Galliyon se jaaye,
Mera dil lalchaye,

Tu dikhta hai singham,
Mere pehle you don’t come,
Tu dikhta hai singham,
Hone de sangam,
Chipku badan se jaise ho chewing gum,

Main aayi leke aas,
Par na bujhe meri pyaas,
Mera dil dola re,

Mera pyar atom bomb,
Ashiqon ka nikle dum,
Mera dil dola re,

Main hun chori no.1,
Babua stop making fun,
Mera dil dola re,

Hmm..
Chal hatt..
Chal muye..
Aaye haaye,

Kayi lene aaye the,
Kayi lene aayenge,
Meri thokar khakar rote jayenge,

Koi churan khata hai,
Koi tonic pita hai,
Par mere saath na koi jeeta hai,

Dikhta na koi,
Gabru jo de de,

Dikhta na koi,
Gabru jo de de,
Mere jism ko,
Passion ka lesson,

Main aayi leke aas,
Par na bujhe meri pyaas,
Mera dil dola re,

Mera pyar atom bomb,
Ashiqon ka nikle dum,
Mera dil dola re,

Main hun chori no.1,
Babua stop making fun,
Mera dil dola re!

The song takes a hilarious take at men who are not able to please women. A woman is expressing her sexuality by asking her partner to perform better and she is also making jabs and taunts at him which will definitely bring a smile to your face. It is amazing how they have tried to capture the lesser talked about side of sexuality which is a woman’s perspective in this song. It is the female gaze coming into action who demands just another basic right which is more than often either taboo-ed or forgotten by half of the world. The word play will tell you, she isn’t afraid of resorting to other means to please herself since she has been searching for a very long time and no one has come up to the mark.

Random Notes 2: Ezra Miller

I am in love with him and here is why:

Miller has described himself as queer, specifying: “The way I would choose to identify myself wouldn’t be gay. I’ve been attracted mostly to ‘shes’ but I’ve been with many people and I’m open to love wherever it can be”; and that he has “a lot of really wonderful friends who are of very different sexes and genders. I am very much in love with no one in particular”.

He was initially charged with drug possession, but the charge was later dropped by a judge. Instead of these charges, Miller faced a penalty of $600 for two citations of disorderly conduct. Miller later commented: “I don’t feel like there’s any need to hide the fact that I smoke pot. It’s a harmless herbal substance that increases sensory appreciation.”

Que Sera, Sera

 Whatever will be, will be.

Is this not what all of us should believe in and trust our faith in? Thanks to Alfred Hitchcock for making the song popular so that I can put my feelings in words easily – whatever will be, will be.

I was inspired by the song (and by Dumbledore) to write something really random:

When I was young, I read a book
I asked my heart, do these worlds really exist?
My heart replied, maybe it is only in your head,
But that doesn’t mean, that it doesn’t exist.

Here’s the song which also won the oscars. Some lyrics from the song:

When I was young, I fell in love
I asked my sweetheart what lies ahead
Will we have rainbows, day after day
Here’s what my sweetheart said.

Que Sera, Sera,
Whatever will be, will be
The future’s not ours, to see
Que Sera, Sera
What will be, will be.

“Bombay-70” and Indian Eminems

I watched the most amazing documentary today, even though a very short one. We had a presentation today in which we had to present our proposal for the next documentary that we will be working upon and we came across these amazing Mumbai rappers from the area popularly called Bombay-70 during research for the same. I was blown away by the amount of talent that these people have. Their music is now being produced by SONY Music so trust me, they should be taken seriously. Their raps are based on their lives, the lives that they have lived in these slums. It is so adorable how as a kid he fell into bad company and once even went to jail but then one day he realised that he could do better and he started writing. They grew up in slums and had almost no access to resources and yet were dedicated enough to do something for the society through their art. When he got hold of an I-Pad, given to him by his father, he started shooting and putting up videos and then there was no looking back for him.

Here is the short documentary about the rapper Naezy followed by some raps by him.

P.S. (Spoilers Ahead): After watching the movie, I was just lost for words. The part where her mother tells about his son writing rap and how people confused it with rape was just hilarious. Now, since we are working on a movie around carrom clubs, which are an integral part of Mumbai, we look forward to doing something like this for our movie as well. The use of the language is just spectacular. The part where he talks about the change in language from English to whatever the common lingo was so thoughtful. I am in love with Naezy, I am sure you will love him too. 🙂

Everything is a Remix (Remastered)

Amazing documentary which also talks about the history of Led Zeppelin, Star Wars, Kill Bill, Macintosh and so much more and how they were “INSPIRED”!

Everything is a Remix Remastered (2015 HD)

Kirby Ferguson:

In the five years since the series launched, Everything is a Remix has been viewed over two million times and produced a popular TED Talk. Amazingly, Remix continues to change the way people think about creativity, originality, and copyright.

To celebrate the five year anniversary, I’ve polished up the original four parts and merged them into a single video. For the first time now, the whole series is available as a single video with proper transitions all the way through, unified styling, and remixed and remastered audio. Part One has been entirely rebuilt in HD.

You can get some merchandise on Kickstarter, if you feel so inclined.

Over the years there have been many requests for Everything is a Remix merchandise and I’m taking this anniversary as an opportunity to finally produce some. With your support, we’ll do a run…
